The Russian government has presented each of the country’s Olympic medal winners with a brand new Audi car.
President Vladimir Putin made the awards to the 129 athletes that won medals at the London Olympic Games, in a ceremony at the Kremlin in Moscow last week. Gold medal winners each received an Audi A8, silver medallists an A7, and bronze medallists an A6, all paid for by the Russian Olympic Federation.
Yelena Isinbayeva, winner of the bronze medal in the women’s pole vault, joked, ‘I think if they had been Russian cars nobody would have shown up.’
