Mercedes-Benz, a Germany-based carmaker, is looking to boost orders in the last two months of the sales year by offering substantial discounts on its models to key customers in the USA.

Intending to compete head on with BMW, Mercedes is looking to discount its models by up to USD5,000, according to a memo that was sent to the company’s dealers and obtained by Bloomberg.

The memo reportedly stated that dealers can offer cash back on several of the 2012 models in order to sustain the company’s 5,221 unit sales lead over BMW. This ranges from USD750 off the C-Class, to USD5,000 off GL-Class SUV’s. The memo clarified that the deals ‘can be offered at the discretion of the dealership’s general manager to VIP customers of the dealership, business associates of the dealership’s employees and dealership employees’ extended family members.’
