Mazda Motor Corporation (TYO: 7269), a Japan-based automaker, is planning to develop an entry-level crossover that will be positioned below the CX-5.

The vehicle is likely to be named the CX-3 and will ride on the same platform as the new Mazda2 sub-compact. Its design will be inspired by the automaker’s KODO design language, and it will borrow styling cues from the CX-5 and the new 6. It is likely to be launched at the beginning of 2014 and arrive at showrooms across Europe and in the United States several months later, priced from £13,000 in the United Kingdom.

The model will be available with a choice of new small displacement engines in Europe, which include a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel and a 1.3-litre petrol burning, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
