Maserati, a subsidiary of Daimler AG (NYSE: DAI) (FWB: DAI), is naming its new BMW 5-Series rival, Levante, according to a new report.

The model is to be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is codenamed M157 and will use the same platform that underpins the Chrysler 300 sedan. It is to arrive at United States dealerships in late 2013 or early 2014.

Pininfarina will design the vehicle’s exterior, but the interior will reportedly be developed in-house and will adopt many of the styling cues of the Kubang SUV. It is to be equipped with a version of Chrysler’s 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 400bhp. The company is also planning to offer the vehicle with a diesel V6 and a performance-minded V8 engine, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
