Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE: TM) (LSE: TYT) (TYO: 7203), is launching an automated safety systems test bed, called the Advanced Active Safety Research Vehicle, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The vehicle features a range of sensory systems designed to observe and respond to the surrounding area.
The model has a 360-degree LIDAR system, which can detect objects including pedestrians or other vehicles up to 70 yards away, and front and side-mounted radar systems that measure the location and speed of objects to create a comprehensive field of vision at intersections.
