Kia Motor Corporation (KSE: 000270), a South Korea-based automaker, is planning to launch a convertible version of the Soul in the United States.

The vehicle is to compete with the Volkswagen GTI. Autocar has reported, citing Kia marketing executive, Soon-Nam Lee, that the car is to be based on the next-generation model and is to be launched in 2014.

The model features a retractable cloth roof or a Jeep Wrangler-style manually removable hardtop, as seen on the Soul’ster concept vehicle. It is to be equipped with a turbocharged engine.
