BMW AG (Xetra: BMW), a Germany-based automaker, is launching its DriveNow car-sharing programme in San Francisco in September 2012.

The programme will allow San Francisco residents who are over 21 years of age to rent one of seventy all-electric BMW ActiveE coupes that will be spread across nine charging stations located all around the city.

Participants in the DriveNow program have to pay a one-time $39 sign-up fee.
