Audi AG, a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG (Xetra: VW), has received a licence from Nevada to test autonomous vehicles on the state’s public roads.
The automaker is the first to receive such a permit. It will utilise its new permit to continue developing and refining its ‘piloted’ autonomous vehicle system, which the automaker says is much like the autopilot function of an airplane.
The ‘piloted’ system will allow the vehicle to manage tasks such as stop-and-go driving and parking, while also allowing the driver the ability to take control if required.
