Audi to develop new predictive efficiency assistance system

Audi AG, a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG (Xetra: VW), is developing an all new predictive efficiency assistance system.

The system works by inserting an electric motor along with a petrol engine, which enables the vehicle to switch the engine on and off frequently during the course of a journey. This in turn helps in maintaining fuel efficiency. Unlike regular stop start technology, Audi’s ‘coasting hybrid’ technology – named iHEV – aims to revolve around the use of gravitational pull to save energy.

The new technology is expected to be utilised in the Audi A7. The motor would use a non conventional 48 V lithium ion battery in addition to a 48V electric system.
