A classic 1962 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder is expected to fetch as much as $9m when it comes up for auction in the US later this month.

RM Auctions predict that the car will sell for between $7.5m and $9m at its sale in Monterey, California on August 17. The estimate is supported by the $10.9m that UK radio presenter, Chris Evans, paid for a 1961 model in 2008.

The car is painted Rosso Corsa (red), has a tan leather interior, and is powered by a 280-horsepower, 3.0-litre V12 engine. Only 37 of this short wheel base version were ever produced.
