Kia Motor Corporation (KSE: 000270), a South Korea-based automaker, is launching a new electric vehicle based on the second-generation Soul in the middle of 2014, according to Benny Oeyen, the marketing president of Kia’s European division.

The vehicle will be the first mass-produced EV that the company will sell outside of its home country. It will share most of its panelling with the new Soul. It is to be equipped with a 50-kilowatt electric motor, coupled with a lithium-ion battery mounted under the car’s floor.

The model is to be launched at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.
