Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE: TM) (LSE: TYT) (TYO: 7203), a Japan-based automaker, has revealed its single-seat electric city car concept, named the Smart Insect, at the CEATEC show in Japan.
The vehicle features onboard motion sensors that enable the car to recognise its owner by their facial characteristics and body type, and can predict the behaviour of the driver over time, learning when to unlock a door or even open it for them. There are sensors outside the vehicle that allow it to greet the owner as they move within close proximity of the car, with front and rear displays offering welcome messages.
If the automaker decides to develop a production version of the vehicle, it would be charged through an unmodified 100-volt AC outlet.
