Cadillac, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM), is aiming for top spot in the United States luxury car segment within the next few years.

The automaker was the nation’s best-selling luxury automaker in 1997, but has since been usurped by foreign imports from the likes of Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Don Butler, vice president of marketing, told the Detroit News, ‘Why not? We’ve been there before.’

Presently, Cadillac is launching its XTS flagship and the BMW 3-Series rival, the ATS sedan at United States dealerships. The automaker is also launching a plug-in hybrid called the ELR and new versions of its CTS and Escalade.
