Carlos Tavares, Renault’s (EURONEXT: RNO) chief operating officer has confirmed that the France-based company is developing a low-cost hybrid drivetrain.
Tavares has not revealed any details of the hybrid engine, but it is likely to be an advanced plug-in system, or it could be a micro-hybrid set-up similar to PSA’s acclaimed, HYbrid4.
The hybrid drivetrain is intended to help the automaker to reach its goal of decreasing its fleet-wide CO2 emission rating to less than 100 grams per kilometre by 2016, and less than 80 grams per kilometre by 2020.
