Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), a United States-based automaker, has refused the request of its European division to produce a small sub-Mustang coupe, according to a new report.
The planned project requires the coupe to use an existing front-wheel drive platform and to rely largely on three- and four-cylinder engines, including at least one turbodiesel engine.
The project was turned down because developing a low-volume vehicle such as a coupe for the ailing European market is too risky. It could be reconsidered when the market returns to normalcy.
