Volkswagen AG (Xetra: VW), a Germany-based automaker, has approved the production of the Taigun compact SUV, according to a new report.
The vehicle was unveiled at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. It is aimed at city-dwelling buyers and rides on the same New Small Family platform currently in use in the pint-sized up!, but is considerably bigger, measuring 151 inches long and 68 inches wide. The model is to arrive at European dealerships a year later after its launch in Brazil in 2014.
The model features a simple dashboard that incorporates a touch-screen for the infotainment system. It is equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that is offered with a turbocharger and direct fuel injection, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. It accelerates from zero to 62mph in 9.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 115mph.
